Heya! I’m Kikine, and I live in the Pyrenees in France with my husband Dan and our dogs Mia and Cleo. It’s absolutely gorgeous here, and I still can’t believe we get to live in such a place! Originally from Quebec, I moved to Florida when I was 10, and then to England as an adult, so my accent is all over the place! But at least I get to speak French again… 'Hourra!' for that!
My husband and I met while snowboarding in Whistler in 2001, and we’ve been snowboarding ever since. I feel so lucky to have found someone to share all that fun with! ♥
A little about how K Beanies started...
For Christmas in 2005, my husband gifted me a knitting book, yarn, and needles. I started making little coin purses and wonky scarves, but what I really loved was the ability to create something out of nothing more than string and a couple of sticks. Too cool! My grandma, who was an actual sock knitting contest winner, used to knit socks for my dad, who wore nothing else during the harsh Quebec winters, and I was determined to learn how to make them. By the time we visited my grandparents in Canada, I had a bit of knitting practice. I thought I was ready (but I definitely wasn’t!). With a lot of patience and help from her, I finally mastered the pattern. I managed to knit my first sock on my own on the way to the airport to fly home. What a wonderful trip it was knitting and reminiscing and just soaking her up. I’m forever grateful for that time.
That was just the beginning of my obsession with all things…yarn.
A few years later, while snowboarding in Chile, I learned how to crochet from a local girl who saw me knitting socks (which I did every chance I got) and I was hooked immediately. I taught myself how to make a beanie and that was that! When we got back to England, I spent all my free time making beanies and selling them on Ebay.
I worked at a ski and snowboard shop at the time, and the owner also let me sell my beanies there. They sold well, so I was able to buy more yarn and logo tags to sew on each one. People also loved designing their own beanies, so I decided to start this website, and the response was amazing from the start. A couple of years in, I was even featured in Huck magazine—a huge milestone in my crocheting journey!
I love what I do, and I’m so grateful to every customer for their support. I make each beanie myself, taking great care, ensuring top quality. It may take a little longer than a mass-produced one, but I hope you’ll love it more because it’s made just for you with love.
Thanks for visiting my website and reading a bit about me and K Beanies. I hope to hear from you soon!
